Global AI investments continue to surge across infrastructure, cloud, semiconductors, and emerging intelligence platforms. This week’s headlines capture the wide arc of capital—from hyper-scale data centres and defence applications to AI-native property tech and real-time information retrieval. As startup valuations climb and infrastructure spending intensifies, concerns around long-term sustainability and return on investment are gaining volume.

Vantage Data Centers announced a $25 billion initiative to build a mega-scale campus in Texas, while Google committed $9 billion to expand its AI and cloud footprint in Oklahoma. Meanwhile, Databricks is reportedly targeting a $100 billion valuation, and Cohere raised $500 million, highlighting the persistent investor appetite for model-centric AI companies.

In parallel, SoftBank deepened its AI bet with a $2 billion stake in Intel, and Voyager Technologies backed Latent AI for military and government applications. Philips invested $150 million in U.S.-based AI ultrasound facilities, and Kasa raised $40 million to scale AI-driven hospitality management. Smaller but telling signals came from firms like Firecrawl and Perplexity AI, each securing venture support to push next-generation AI tooling into new verticals.

Still, critical voices are surfacing. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman described the current momentum as a bubble, cautioning against inflated expectations and underscoring the enormous cost of future infrastructure, which he believes could run into the trillions. At the same time, an advisory group in the UK warned against overlooking smaller chipmakers, calling the loss of Arm a “missed opportunity” in AI leadership.

From private capital shifts to macro-level infrastructure plays, this week illustrates the ongoing expansion—and questioning—of AI’s financial trajectory.
